On the 25th of March 2026 the government provided further encouragement for the transport sector when it announced a £1bn multi-year support package for commercial vehicle electrification, stretching to 2030.

Part of this package comprised extension of the pilot Depot Charging Scheme which supports the uptake of zero-emission HGVs, vans and coaches by part-funding the installation of charging infrastructure at fleet depots and will fund up to 70% of charge point and civil engineering costs, capped at £1million across all sites. With the first application deadline due on the 30th of June 2026 and all projects needing to be completed by the 31st of March 2027, this announcement has acted as a welcome catalyst for depot electrification.

The other half of the funding package announcement was confirmation of continuing Zero Emission Truck (up to £81k) and van ( up to £5k) Grants, which make cost parity a reality in many more instances than previously.
